AKB48 has yet another collaboration - this time with a antivirus software company. Kaspersky is the fourth-largest global vendor of antivirus software products.
10 members of AKB48 kenkyuusei(or Research Students) were selected as "AKB48 Kaspersky Research Lab", a PR unit to advertise Kaspersky's virus software for about 3 months. The 10 members are - Oba Mina, Shimada Haruka, Takeuchi Miyu, Ichikawa Miori, Abe Maria, Kato Rena, Yokoyama Yui, Mori Anna, Nagao Mariya and Kanazawa Yuuki.
But that's not all. Coming 28th September, at the unit's official site, the 'head lab professor' - a popular official AKB member, will be revealed.

It's an interesting and unique decision for a company to make use of kenkyuusei for advertising. I obviously can't say how well this would work, but I like how this gives the kenkyuusei more exposure.
I'm especially pleased about Oba and Nagao being chosen because they're among my favourite kenkyuusei, while at the same time, it's such a pity that Izuta Rina wasn't chosen.
The chosen members seem to be among the more popular kenkyuusei, although Shimazaki Haruka isn't in. I wonder what was the basis for choice. This may provide some clues about who will get promoted next, since Erepyon will be graduating soon.
Also, it will be interesting to see who the popular "head lab professor" official member is. It could really go two ways, either Kaspersky pays for the most front girls like Acchan or Yuko so that the entire PR level is brought up because they are already only using kenkyuusei now; or Kaspersky thinks that a normal front girl popular member is enough.
