AKB48's [Koko ni Ita Koto] tops ORICON weekly

AKB48's latest album [Koko ni Ita Koto] has reached the ORICON #1 for the week with 601,985 units sold! That's close to double the amount sold in the first day, 321K.

What this means is that AKB48 now holds the records for the highest selling original album in the first week by a female group. Previously, the record was held by Morning Musume's "3rd Love Paradise", for 11 years and 2 months with 578,000 units sold. The album is also now the highest selling album for the year so far.

Koko ni Ita Koto has sold more units in the first week than the total sales of the previous album, Kamikyokutachi. Wow, the number is simply amazing. The girls and AKS must feel like big winners from this round of sales. Of course, we cannot forget the biggest winner of them all, Akimoto Yasushi.

I wonder though how long will they take to reach the top for total album sales? Usually for artists in Japan, Albums sell more than the singles but this is clearly not the case for AKB48, their latest single Everyday, Kachuusha selling 1.5 million so far.
