DiVA's 2nd Single titled [Cry] + Covers, Tracklist

Tracklist and covers for DiVA's 2nd Single have been revealed. Titled [Cry], it will go on sale on August 10th and like all OOO48 releases now there are multiple versions to collect, a total of 4. TYPE A, B, and C will have different coupling track, and the Theater version will have all the songs but without the instrumentals. Theater version will also include 1 (one) ticket to a handshake event

Just like in their debut single Tsuki no Uragawa, an AKB song has been "DiVA-ised". Previously it was Blue Rose from Team K 2nd Stage [Seishun Girls]. This time the song used is the popular  MARIA also from Team K, but from the 3rd Stage [Nounai paradise].

As you can see in the picture, DiVA is still 4 persons. Auditions for the 6 more members (read here) have not started yet. However in TYPE C's DVD is "Introduction to Audition". Could this be the details of the audition? The dates and places and whatnot. We will only know on August 10th.

No Sleeves [Kuchibiru Furezu...] 1st Week Sales

Following the last update where the ladies of No Sleeves sold 42k units of their 7th single, Kuchibiru Furezu, on the first day on the Oricon charts, the Oricon Weekly charts has also been updated, where the trio kept their #3 position, ranking in after Hey!Say!Jump! and KARA.

The final sales count for the week tallied up to close to 100k sales, which is the best weekly result for the subunit so far. To put this into context, their 6th single Answer, which was released back in March, sold about 82k in its first week, while the 5th single Kimishika sold about 31k.

So as we can see, the popularity of AKB48's subunits grows with the main group, though it might not be at a steep rate. They're still not yet at Not Yet's level of 150k sales in a week but I hope they won't take long to reach it. I really did hope for a better result, considering that No3b is my favourite subunit out of the many. The songs are of good quality too, so I thought it was really worth the support. Let's hope they do even better the next time round!

Not yet [Naminori Kakigoori] 1st Day Sales & Review

Not yet's sophomore single, Naminori Kakigoori, released today, three months after their debut in March. Have they outdone themselves this time, or sunk further?

Let's take a look at the Oricon charts today first:

Congratulations to Not yet once again for topping the charts!

The best-selling AKB48 subgroup continues to do us proud. Naminori Kakigoori sold 75,979 copies on the first day. For comparison, Shuumatsu Not Yet sold 50,563 copies on its first day. It is a comfortable lead for now, but will this single be able to beat their debut's first week sales of 159,678 as well? I believe it is a resounding "yes".

At least we know the general public approve of the release. What about the songs included on this single? Are they better than those on Shuumatsu Not Yet?

Naminori Kakigoori (波乗りかき氷)
The Not yet girls get solo lines for the first time. Although the girls' vocal abilities, or lack thereof, sound a bit more glaring thanks to this, but I don't mind one bit. I absolutely adore this song. It is the perfect mix of catchy, summery happy, and "pretty" with an amazing electric guitar riff at the start. By "pretty", I am talking about the wind-chime-like sparkly sounds scattered nicely throughout the song. Everything just works. In my opinion, this is the best Not yet song in their short discography so far.

PV: Fantastic beyond words. I like how the girls are all having fun in the PV. And Yuko put in effort to learn surfing, just to film those few seconds. Clumsy Rie is so adorable! The girls look really stunning. What else can I say? Go own it on DVD and loop to your heart's content!
The art direction, cinematography and filming location were crazy beautiful. They really worked the slow motion effects and depth of field. The standard of this PV is definitely much, much higher than the two versions of Shuumatsu Not Yet's PV. I suppose that their stellar debut single sales allowed for more budget allocation this time.

Vermeer no Tegami (フェルメールの手紙)
A ballad that I would say is a little too slow. However, the tune is not bad and it's relaxing. It is quite a forgettable song, but enjoyable. It does grow a little on me as I loop it more. Apparently this is the theme song for some museum exhibition about Vermeer, so it was probably specially written for it, seeing the title. The song almost qualifies as elevator music...suitable for museums, eh.

Hug Tomo (ハグ友)
The second tie-up in the single, this song is the theme song for the Japanese release of the Universal Pictures animation film Hop, which is retitled as Easter Rabbit's Candy Factory there. I personally don't see it as suitable to such a movie, but okay, whatever it does to get them publicity, right? Hug Tomo is a happy and typical idol-type song with cowboy-ish instrumentals. It also sounds way too generic.

Something that bothers me a little is the inclusion of Kojiyuu (Oshima Yuko and Kojima Haruna) dialogue. I was like, wha-? Really, I'm sure Kojiyuu fans will like it, but why the hell in a Not yet song? Harunyan has nothing to do with Not yet. I would prefer subgroups to keep some sort of distance away from main AKB, otherwise it is no different from a song on an AKB album.

I'm not fond of this song and it's also not growing on me. I don't think i'll be listening to this song anymore aside from the occasional shuffle.

Girisha no Kamotsusen (ギリシャの貨物船)
Wow, their voices start to grate in this one. This is probably a song you'd want to keep away from if the solos in Naminori Kakigoori were already grating for you. Otherwise, a pretty good ballad. I love the piano in this, and the tune is very melancholic. Nice and relaxing, in a similar way to Vermeer no Tegami, but this song works a lot better on the whole.

Bokutachi no Offshore (僕たちのオフショア)
Something slightly more upbeat! Finally! I'd liken this to Boku dake no value, both songs kind of exude the same energetic lolita idol feel, which I find weird for Not yet to do. It's not really the style they have been seemingly going for and this is more like main AKB, but alright, I like it.

---

Overall, most of this release are considerably slow songs. Why!? More upbeat songs would work for Not yet, slow songs only make their lack of vocal ability more obvious. Also, it gets boring! They really should do more songs like Warau ga Ii. I do like that the song titles tried to keep a kind of...."water-related" and traveling theme? Well, with the exception of Hug Tomo.

With this single, it seems Not yet is going the generic pop music path. In fact, they're definitely the most generic of all the AKB subgroups. I think it sort of works for them because the members all have mainstream appeal. If only they could cut the amount of slow songs.

SDN48 3rd Single [MIN.MIN.MIN] Covers

Covers for SDN48's 3rd Single MIN.MIN.MIN are out! The TYPE A cover features the 6 top Senbatsu members, and TYPE B cover has the 12 girls of Undergirls A. Theater ver. has finally been announced, but the cover is not out yet. One ticket for the release event [Can you let us have a handshake a little bit longer than usual Handshake event] is included in the Theater ver. Held only in Tokyo.

Wonder why only 6 members for TYPE A's cover? It's cool looking at least. TYPE B's cover is just beautiful. I think I will get TYPE B this time.

MIN.MIN.MIN will be used in the CM for the Min Min Daha anti-sleep energy drink.

They could definitely do without the red wings on their back. It completely ruins the look. Is it me or does SDN48's Singles sound more and more K-pop? Even more so than Ai, Chuseyo. Anyway, I managed to find out more info about the single title.
MIN.MIN.MIN is song for energy drink CM Min Min Daha (眠眠打破)
眠 = nemu (sleepy)
打破 = break-down / defeat / abolish
So the song is probably about not sleeping?

The single will release on August 17th.

SDN48 3rd Single [MIN.MIN.MIN] Announced + Tracklist + Member Arrangement

Just out, SDN48 has announced their 3rd Single slated for release on August 17th. It will be titled [MIN.MIN.MIN], which doesn't really mean anything.

MIN.MIN.MIN currently has 2 announced versions, TYPE A and B. It is unknown if there will be a Theater version to be released as well. But most likely there will. The new Single will include the recently debuted 3rd generation members.

The tracklist and member arrangement has already been announced, check it out! Quite a lot of movement in SDN48's Senbatsu, a number of popular girls didn't make it. I guess management is tying to balance it out and rotate the members?

Just like Ai, Chuuseyo, the 1st and 2nd track will be the same, but the 3rd track changes. Track 2 is Undergirls A with their song Onedari Champagne.  For Track 3, Type A will have Undergirls B with Abazure, which means "bitch". Type B will have SDN48's version of AKB48's million single Everyday, Kachuusha.

Watarirouka Hashiritai 7's 8th Single [Hetappi Wink]

Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 will release their 8th Single, titled [Hetappi Wink] (へたっぴウィンク) on August 3rd. Surprise, surprise. Iwasa Misaki is still in the Warota7 despite switching agency from Ogi Pro (Warota's agency). The Single will come in 4 different versions: The usual TYPE A, B, C, and a Normal ver.

Official Watarirouka Hashiritai website: http://watarirouka.com/news/index.html

"Hetappi" is a cute way of saying "Hetakuso" (下手くそ) which means "lack of skill". So the song is about them being bad at winking. Ahahaha interesting... The center of Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 Watanabe Mayu has said in an early interview that the title song Hetappi Wink will give you energy. And indeed it has! On my first listen of the song, it was an instant hit. Like all of Warota's single titles, the song is crazily addicting and full of energy.

By the way do you still remember the Mothers Day song Mamma, Grazie! we blogged about long ago? Well that turned out not to be a proper Single, instead it was a digital release. But good news for those who like the song, it will be released after all as one of the B-Sides of Hetappi Wink.

Not much else is known about the other B-Side songs other than that Mayuyu will get another solo song Mirai no Koibito in the Normal ver. of the Single. It seems customary for her to get a solo in every Warota release nowadays.

3 days after the release of Hetappi Wink on August 6th, Watarirouka will he having their first solo concert at the Hibi Yagai Ongakudon, also known as Hibiyayaon. However there are only 6,000 seats, and it's a lottery. Included inn all first press copies of the single is serial number card for the event.

AKB48 24th Single to have a Janken Tournament again

Just announced a few mins ago at AKB48's Everyday, Kachuusha Big Handshake event.

AKB48's 24th Single (Flying Get is 22rd) will have a Janken Tournament again like last year. The Tournament will be held on September 20th at the Nippon Budoukan.

All AKB48 members, including Kenkyuuseis, will take part in the tournament. 5 members from each SKE48 and NMB48 will also be part of the tournament. There will be a preliminary round for SKE48 and NMB48 to choose the 5 participating members for the Janken Tournament.

Additionally, AKB48's 23rd Single has been announced to release in October.

Report from last year's AKB48 19th Single Janken Tournament.
http://melosnomichi.blogspot.com/2010/09/akb48-19th-single-janken-tournament.html
http://melosnomichi.blogspot.com/2010/09/akb48-19th-single-janken-results.html

Jeez Aki-P.... Is it too hard to think of another game to play instead? I'm kinda annoyed that he decided to repeat last year exactly right down to this detail. "AKB48 24th Single JENGA Tournament", how much cooler is that.

Anyway I am really excited for this because the results are very random and unpredictable. Will we see a new center?

No Sleeves's [Kuchibiru Furezu] - 1st Day Sales + Review

With a totally different concept from their maiden image in their 6th single Answer, No3b made a complete transformation into punk rockers with a devilish feel with their 7th single, Kuchibiru Furezu. The Ogi Pro trio began sales for the single on 29th June, and managed to come in #3 on their first day of sales, ranking in after Johnny group Hey!Say!Jump! and Korean girlgroup KARA. I think it's not bad, considering the tough competition, but I thought they could have done better. It's AKB48, afterall.

With comparison to their 6th single Answer, who ranked in #2 by the first day and sold 41k copies in the first day, I thought that they would have done better, given the growing popularity of AKB48 in Japan, and that the subunit has 2 Kami7 members in the team. Well, at least they have a constant level of sales from both singles. I think it is quite a good achievement actually, to be able to reach #3 on its first day of sales. So, congratulations to them!

What's my verdict of the single? It is sort of like a buffet of condiments: It is arranged in a way that the songs represents different tastes and flavour. You get the hot and spicy kick from the title track, Kuchibiru Furezu, yet you also get the cooling, icy effect from the B-side, Sakkaku . The best part to the single is that you get an exclusive B-side solo song from each of the members, which I thought was pretty awesome because you get to appreciate each individual's vocal talents and find out their singing style.

No Sleeves - Kuchibiru Furezu... (唇 触れず...)
The good: The rock feel is an energiser for the single, which makes it really appropriate for it to be the title track. I think the song adheres closely to the winning formula from AKB48's Iiwake Maybe, with the hardhitting beats and guitar rifts capturing the attention of the listeners.

The bad: One thing about the song is that there will be one line of reptition in the chorus. With that, the repetition in the chorus can be seen as catchy...or annoying. But being a pop song, I think it is something that is appropriate which can be done. In fact, repetition makes it more memorable (for obvious reasons).

The 'extra': At first I was kind of surprised to see them in this image in their CD jackets, but after awhile I realised I really love the outfit and concept for this song. Rocker chicks are awesome. Peace out!

No Sleeves - Sakkaku (錯覚)
The good: The song is fully auto-tuned, so the feel is really different. For me, it was an experience of a good electropop song that uses auto tune appropriately. I would have said that this song would not have been as nice if the effect was not used.

The bad: Auto tune is a double-edged sword. Although it gives a pretty amazing electro feel to the song, it drowns out the members' vocals, which denies another opportunity for the showcase of their voices. Given that No3b members have pretty good vocals, I think this is pretty wasted.

The 'extra': Apparently auto-tuned songs can give a good feel without sounding trashy too! When I first heard this song, I was almost immediately reminded of Capsule's "Stay With You", which was the movie LIAR GAME: The Final Stage's ending theme. Both songs uses the auto tune technology to create a new feel that would have been impossible to achieve just a few years earlier.

Kojima Haruna - Asatte, Jamaica (明後日、ジャマイカ)
The good: Obviously because she's my oshi- ok I'll be objective here. The mid-tempo song gives an easy listening feel. Following up from her previous solo song Cloudy Song, this song gives a nice continuation and also features her vocals well.

The bad: The song is good, but there's nothing special to it. Given the mass production of songs from AKS, for a song to be memorable there must be something special to it, and I guess this song is lacking that X-factor.

Takahashi Minami - Dareka Oshiete (誰か教えて)
The good: The undisputed leader of AKB48 does not disappoint, as the song is brought across well through her vocals. I could visualise this being part of a stage song too, as the melodies and instruments used to piece this song makes it real appropriate for the situation.

The bad: Again similar to Nyannyan's case, the song is good, but it lacks a certain flavour to make it imprinted in the minds of the listeners. Otherwise I feel that the song is worth a listen.

Minegeshi Minami - Sayonara ni Kitsuite... (サヨナラに気づいて…)
The good: Wow, i got to say Miichan really impressed me in this one, this time round she has the best solo out of the three. As it is a slow tempo ballad style song, maybe that was what that did the trick. From the song itself you can hear the nice feel that is conveyed through the vocals and the rhythm. A potential soloist, perhaps?

The bad: To find a bad point in this particular song is akin to finding bones in an egg, but I suppose the song could have been better if there were more variations, such as building towards a higher climax at the end of the song. Otherwise, great song, a must-listen.
